
Jazzinty Workshop
Jazzinty Workshop is an intensive program of musical education, stretching over a week. It is an academy, open to anyone interested in improvisation and jazz.
Basic instrument skill is required; any practical experience of jazz and improvisation is recommended, but not obligatory.
Categories
A. Jazz improvisation masterclass
Masterclass is intended for all musicians at the high level of jazz knowledge, especially for drummers and percussionists, but also for other instrumentalist as well as vocalists. In 2008 masterclass will be lead by drummer, composer and educator, worldclass jazz legend Adam Nussbaum. It will take place in the morning.
B. Ethno improvisation
Ethno improvisation course is a new category that will be led by great guitarist Vlatko Stefanovski. Like masterclass it is intended for all participants (not just guitarists) who want to try, learn and understand traditional (Balkan) music styles. Vlatko is well known by his exceptional guitar technique, developing sound pictures full of imagination and lightness coming from traditional Macedonian and Balkan music.
C. Improvisation and jazz (basic, intermediate, advanced levels)
Bass
Bass course offers learning of double, electric and fretless bass. Programme combines basics of improvisation, walking bass, jazz, latin and funk bass techniques and advanced improvisation techniques. The course is lead by acknowledged NYC jazz scene bassist Joris Teepe.
Accordion
Advanced and professional level of jazz accordion wiil be lead by Italian virtuoso Simone Zanchini. It will focus on development of improvised lines, use of rhythmic elements, and comping techniques. Improvisation at this instrument is often flirting with ethno rhythms.
Piano
The course combines accustic piano, rhodes and hammond. The program offers elements of jazz harmony and improvisation, comping and various contemporary piano styles. The course will be lead by renowned Dutch jazz master Jasper Soffers.
Guitar
This course combines electric, accustic and fretless guitar. The content is adapted to participant's knowledge and offers basic chord groups, techniques for practice, basic jazz scales, jazz and blues harmony, polyrhythmic and advanced improvisation. The course will be lead by acknowledged Dutch jazz guitarist Ratko Zjaca.
Vocals
New introduction to the workshop is a division of a jazz and blues-rock program for vocals. Jazz part is taken over by an excellent American mentor, pianist and vocalist Judy Niemack, an educator from both USA and European conservatories, while the blues part remains in the hands of the great US vocalist Miles Griffith. Both courses will offer learning of vocal techniques, vocal improvisation, ear training and practice techninques
Saxophone
The saxophone course (tenor, alto and soprano) is also intended for baritone, flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon. It offers learning of harmony, improvisation and advanced rhythmic and melodic concepts. The mentor of the course is an outstanding US player and improviser Andy Middleton.
Trumpet
In addition to trumpet this course includes cornet, trombone, tuba and horn. The course is for all levels and offers jazz improvisation and articulation, capturing of advanced rhythmic and melodic concepts and study of the masters on trumpet. The course will be lead by young Austrian jazz virtuoso Daniel Noesig.
Violin
The course for violin and viola will be lead by an outstanding young German jazz violinist Max Grosch. The course offers jazz improvisation, new improvisational tools and learning of advanced rhythmic and melodic concepts.
Percussion
The course offers learning of percussion techniques, understanding of advanced percussion concepts through the evolution of rhythmic styles and comprehension of advanced afro-cuban rhythms. It will be lead by renowned cuban percussionist Amel Serra.
D. Basic jazz harmony and composition
The course is intended for all musicians with some basic knowledge in classical music that would like to tackle the universe of jazz and improvising. It offers comprehention of the basics in harmony, harmonic analysis of jazz compositions and the analysis of composition techniques and styles. The course will be lead by an outstanding young Slovene pianist and composer Erik Marenče. Participants also listen to general Jazzinty lectures and observe the work of the combos.
