New album: Jazzon 2009
Jazzon VII brings forth the live recording of a unique final concert for the seventh Jazzon composition award, which was held in Novo mesto, Slovenia, during the international Jazzinty music workshop and festival in August 2009. It is a selection of the best of best, it shows what has really been happening in the field of Slovene jazz composition. Seven composers, seven compositions, two of them awarded by an international jury, one of them by the concert audience; on the top of this also the original composition by Robert Jukić Biti (lyrics by Lana Cenčić) and the new take of last year's winning composition Song for Buli by Tjaša Perigoj.
As usually in jazz, the performers do have a lot of space for improvising and free interpretation. The scores only serve as a fundament for the translation – always unique – into the actual, live sound of the performers on the concert stage. A really great international ensemble, led by the young Slovenian bass player and composer Robert Jukič, has more then succeeded in creating an inspiring sound environment where vocal lines – leaning on complex, but steady grooves – harmonically interweave with the sounds of vibraphone (marimba) and saxophone.
